Aquila (pronounced /əˈkwɪlə/ or /ˈækwɨlə/, Latin: eagle; sometimes named the Vulture), is one of the 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy, also mentioned by Eudoxus (4th century BC) and Aratus (3rd century BC) and now also part of the list of 88 constellations acknowledged by the IAU. It lies roughly at the celestial equator. The alpha star, Altair, is a vertex of the Summer Triangle asterism.
Boötes (IPA: /boʊˈoʊtiːz/ Greek: Βοώτης or herdsman) is one of the 88 modern constellations and was also one of the 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy. Boötes is generally referred to as the Bear Watcher, since it appears to be watching over the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. It contains the third brightest star in the night sky, Arcturus. Note that the “ö” in the name is a diaeresis, not an umlaut.
Cassiopeia (pronounced /ˌkæsiːəˈpiːə/, colloquially /ˌkæsiˈoʊpiə/) is a northern constellation which Greek mythology considered to represent the vain queen Cassiopeia who boasted about her unrivaled beauty. It is one of the 88 modern constellations, and was also one of the 48 listed by Ptolemy.
Delphinus (pronounced /dɛlˈfaɪnəs/, Latin: dolphin), is a rather small (ranked 69th) northern constellation very close to the celestial equator. It was already included in Ptolemy’s list of 48 constellations and also forms part of the modern list of 88 constellations approved by the IAU.
Eridanus (IPA: [ɪˈɹɪdənəs]), the ancient Greek name for the Po River, is the sixth largest of the 88 modern constellations. It was also one of Ptolemy’s 48 constellations and is associated mythologically with Phaëton.
Fornax (pronounced /ˈfɔrnæks/, Latin: furnace) is a southern constellation which was first introduced by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille under the name Fornax Chemica (Latin for chemical furnace), representing a small solid-fuel heater formerly used for heating chemical experiments.
