The Dragon Master Legend

Evan is coming to MapleStory on March 31st and whether you’re a Maple newcomer or veteran, you might be wondering what this new class has to offer. What makes Evan different from an Aran or a Cygnus Knight or an Explorer? The short answer is: Plenty! Evan is a whole new Maple experience, and exciting new way to play the game that shouldn’t be missed! Here’s what you have to look forward to as the Dragon Master.

The Onyx Dragon
The Onyx Dragon is Evan’s most unique characteristic. Unlike the summoned creatures available to high-level characters of other classes, Evan’s dragon companion is neither a summoned creature nor a pet. It’s an intrinsic part of your character. Your dragon companion does not have a summon duration and it does not behave like a pet. Instead your dragon will execute your attacks with skills he learns as you both level up. That means that you’ll have to learn a whole new way to control your character because you don’t really have one – you have two and knowing where both are at any one time will be how an Evan excels.

Growth System
The Evan class development is nothing like the traditional MapleStory job advancement system. Evan uses what we call the “growth system.” A “growth” is achieved when you reach a certain level. While the traditional job advancement system has large gaps between advancements and new skills, the new growth system minimizes those gaps. There are ten growth stages and at each growth stage you learn new skills and your dragon evolves. Check out our article A Boy and His Dragon for more details on the growth system.

Skills
At each growth stage you and your dragon will learn new skills. These skills include attack, support and passive abilities. At level 20, for example, you learn an attack skill that damages a whole mob of monsters. Throughout your journey as the magician hero you’ll also gain knowledge of different types of elemental skills — normal, fire, ice and poison. While Evan doesn’t have any heal spells, he does acquire party buffs available later on. Such buffs include Recovery Aura at the 8th growth stage can help party members to recover MP and at the 10th growth stage, Soul Stone allows Evan to resurrect 1-2 party members. These skills will give plenty of help to parties with Evan. To maximize the effectiveness of your skills, you can apply Skill Points (SP) earned every time you level up. Visit our article A Boy and His Dragon for details about which skills are available at each growth stage.
